LeBron James recently passed the 10,000 point mark, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach this milestone. Couple that with the fact he became the ninth fastest player to get to those 10,000 career points and we can start looking ahead to the end of James’ career when he retires with an NBA-record 40,000+ points.
There’s no doubt about it in my mind that James is our generation’s Wilt Chamberlain. He is the most gifted athlete I’ve ever seen in the NBA and that’s probably true for people who …

We’re couchside for the first time in a long time, enjoying the Raptors hosting the Wiz. All I can say to start: I miss Rod Black’s mustache.
Early on, Songaila is killing it. He just threw the ball in from the right block, about 10 feet out. He is out-fetal-ing Rasho.
Calderon just waltzed baseline, through the key, up to the free throw line, and then tossed up an ill-advised jumper.
The Swirk is overly excited tonight. He’s practically screaming when the Raps get a 5-on-4.
What would it cost for Toronto to pick …

There has been a lot of chatter of late about making a change in the way the NBA playoff participants are determined and seeded. I’ve heard two different propositions: one of them is to abolish the conferences altogether and simply take the 16 best teams in the NBA to determe who makes the playoffs; the other argument aims to keep the conferences as they are, but re-seed the 16 teams based on their records once eight teams from each conference have qualified.
Fans, bloggers and journalists alike all seem to think …

UPDATE: Marc Stein at ESPN is saying that Devean George is going to exercise his right to veto any trade involving him. Unbelievable! We’ll see if he can be persuaded, or if something can be worked out without George. Stay tuned!
According to multiple sources, including Marc Stein of ESPN and Tony Meija at CBS Sportsline, Jason Kidd’s long-rumoured trade to the Dallas Mavericks is finally done. According to sources, the trade breaks down like so: Dallas gets Kidd and Malik Allen, while New Jersey gets Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, …

A comment I left on my favorite Raptors blog, Raptors Lair, making the case for Calderon, All-Star:
I love the blog, but I’ll politely disagree.
Jose is a deserved All-Star. Hamilton has put up nice numbers on a top team, but I think Jose has meant far more to Toronto than Hamilton has to Detroit.
Season Averages
Hamilton: 19 points, 4 assists, 3 boards, and 1 steal, 50% from the field, 47% from three, and 1.89 turnovers/game.
Calderon: 12 points, 9 assists, 3 boards, 1 steal, 52% from the field, 45% from three, and 1.58 …

East All-Star reserves: Jose Calderon got robbed by a masked man named Richard Hamilton, who undeservedly stole his spot. Calderon is one of the best guards in the NBA right now, while Hamilton is a solid player who benefits from being on a very good team. Unfortunately the coaches making the decisions missed seeing Calderon completely killing opposing defenses this season, or they decided that Jose is a backup shining while TJ Ford is out. Either way, the East are going to miss Calderon’s abilities in the game. Chris Bosh …

Terry Stotts, former head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks, has taken a job in the NBA Developmental League.
The unfortunate part? He’s not going to be coaching - he’s going to “evaluate each of the League’s coaches and provide insight into improving their skills in order for them to elevate to the NBA.”
Seriously.
In his four seasons as a head coach, Stotts has a career record of 115-168. He was fired from both of his jobs. As the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, he once told his team …

Great game in Boston tonight, probably the best game I’ve seen all season. The Celtics just went down to the Detroit Pistons 87-85 on two last-second free throws from Chauncey Billups.
With 1.7 seconds remaining, Billups pump faked Tony Allen right out of his shoes, leaned in, and let it fly. Whistle. 0.1 seconds left on the clock. Two makes for Chauncey. Game over.
Boston put up a really good fight, and showed that they can play through some adversity. Ray Allen hit some big shots, Kevin Garnett made some big plays, …

Oh baby, we’re snowed in this weekend in Toronto. I commend anyone able to make it to the Air Canada Centre, simply because you’ll have to shovel your way out the door today.
We’ve got the Celtics in town to take on the Raptors. Toronto are going for their 5th win in a row, while the Celtics are looking for their 9th win in a row, their 20th victory of the season. They are well ahead of the pack so far - Orlando looked like they might challenge the Celtics early, …

It’s Spanish night in Toronto! No word on whether the Garbajoa bobblehead is in street clothes.
But seriously, folks, the Jorge Garbajosa situation is one that had to eventually come up in the NBA. It’s just unfortunate that it had to happen to Toronto - but really, what other NBA team is virtually half non-American?
The Raptors are 7-7 on the season, while the Grizzle are floundering at 5-9 coming into tonight’s contest.
In Raptorland, Jose Calderon is getting a ton of minutes while TJ Ford sits out for a 4th straight game …
