By Rashad Mobley • on August 6, 2008

The Washington Wizards released their 2008-2009 NBA schedule today, and it appears as if they will finally be rewarded for being among the NBA’s elite for the past few years.

The Wizards will open up their season at home for the first time in nine years, on October 29th, when they face off against Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets.

From there the Wizards will play 11 nationally televised games, including two holiday games on Turner Network Television (TNT). On Thanksigving Day they will take on Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. On Christmas Day, they will take on the LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers who have knocked them out of the playoffs the past three years. The Wizards’ first appearance on national television will be on Nov. 12 against Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer, and the always tough Utah Jazz.

Some former local high school and college stars will also be making their return during this upcoming 2008-2009 season. Former Georgetown center Roy Hibbert returns to the Verizon Center on Nov. 15 when the Wizards take on the Indiana Pacers. Gaithersburg, Maryland native, and the second pick in the 2008 draft, Michael Beasley and his Miami Heat squad first make an appearance in Washington on Nov. 18.

The defending champion Boston Celtics only play in Washington DC once (Dec. 11), but the Wizards will have to face them in Boston during the first game of 2009 (Jan. 2) and the last game of the regular season (April 15).
