Buzzer Beaters - 05/04

May 4, 2008

buzzerbeaters.jpg* ESPN ran a feature article on Chris Lofton this week revealing that he played his senior season after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from one of his testicles in March 2007.

* The Ball In Europe team is doing a great job of covering the Euroleague Final Four and the highlight for me is seeing a picture of them giving Ramunas Sisauskas a t-shirt that my buddy Matt Dyck designed.

* Last week the big buzz around the NBA was Soulja Boy showing up at a Wizards game to help support the team after LeBron James ripped into him and the franchise. Nice gesture, right? Yes, I suppose, but with a new single coming out I think that also played into his motivation for showing up and getting some free publicity. Jay-Z hasn’t kept quiet as he’s recorded a diss about DeShawn Stevenson you can listen to by clicking here.

* While watching PTI this week I nearly fell off my chair when Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser showed this picture and started talking about Tyler Hansborough jumping off a frat house balcony into a pool.

* Sticking with North Carolina a little longer, check out these pictures of Presidential candidate Barack Obama lacing up his kicks to practice with the Tar Heels. Here’s a video clip of what happened during the practice courtesy of The Big Lead and CBS News.

* The latest blog rankings are up on Le Basketbawl and Hoops Addict has moved up from 13 to 11.

* TrueHoop has a great anecdote about Kobe Bryant picking up the tab for his teammates earlier this season and the team chanting MVP after the gracious gesture.

* Count me as one of the many basketball fans who feel Al Horford was snubbed in the Rookie of the Year race.

* It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Elena Della Donne, the LeBron James of women’s college basketball.

* It seems like just yesterday I was still in high school watching Toni Kukoc play for Chicago and win a ton of championships. Now, he looks like an old man and far from the twenty-something player I remember.

* Connecticut Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun and fans of his basketball program have to be praying this Facebook profile for Craig Austrie is a joke because if it is, now the program is in a whole world of trouble.

* Section F Sports feels the way to fix the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets is a trade which would see Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, Josh Howard and Jason Terry switch uniforms. What do you think? Personally, I think this deal would leave Dallas with a star studded starting five but not enough shot attempts and a thin bench.

* Get ready for Chris Paul Day on the Internet on May 6th.

Here are some tunes to add to your iPod…

* Swizz Beatz released his latest track and it’s one that will be in heavy rotation in my iPod during workouts this month.

* Coldplay’s new song Violent Hill is going to be played a lot this summer. Does anyone know when the album is going to be released? Did you know Chris Martin did a collaboration with Jay-Z?

* We Do It Right posted a genius mixtape of Crooked I and Jay-Z called Reserved For The Bosses that’s a must download for any Jay-Z fan.
