* Hardwood Paroxysm had a link to the top 10 selling jerseys of the past decade and he came to an interesting conclusion: fans prefer players who look flashy than those who win Championships. I’m still baffled that four of the players have never won a Championship while Tim Duncan can’t get any love from fans.
* Would sending the NBA Champions to the Olympics to rep the United States be the answer? John Calipari feels if the United States were to select a core of eight players from the roster of the current NBA Champions while sprinkling in a few selected players to round out the roster it would. Ball in Europe had a great response to this which I agree with: “When I check the roster of the actual NBA champions in their NBA Finals 2007 set, not less than five players were internationals: Tony Parker, Fabricio Oberto, Manu Ginobili, Francisco Elson and Beno Udrih. Realistically, the Spurs without all these players that would be their opponents, would not have a chance of winning it all in my opinion. Maybe I am wrong and Calipari is right, but I have my doubts about this.”
* Huge props to Hardwood Paroxysm for scoring an interview with D-League commissioner Dan Reed.
* As a young coach myself I’m a huge fan of Brian McCormick’s writing. Earlier this week on his Crossover Movement blog he wrote a great read about whether coaches should use drills and it provided me some great food for thought as I get ready for our playoffs in a couple weeks.
* Trouble in paradise? Dave Feschuk of The Star feels T.J. Ford might be wearing out his welcome in Toronto.
* Can you imagine what LeBron James and Chris Paul would look like running the court together? With Cleveland having $30 million in cap space the summer and Paul becoming a free agent in 2009, this has a possibility of happening. Do I think it will happen? No. Does the idea make me smile? You bet!
* One of my favourite writers, David Alrdidge, wrote a great article on Thaddeus Young.
* The latest blogger MVP and Rookie of the Year rankings are up on Hornets247.com.
* Derrick Coleman: From All-American to NBA star to injured on Pros vs. Joes. Ouch.
* Tracy Graven ranked the top 10 rookie in the NBA this season and I have to admit I’m steamed he failed to include Jamario Moon yet he included Acie Law IV and Nick Young. Also adding to my frustration is the fact he had Al Thornton ranked second and Al Horford third. What’s up with that noise, Tracy?
* Ball In Europe provides hoop fans with an update on how highflyer James White is doing in Europe as well as a YouTube clip of a recent dunk contest he took part in.
* Huge props to Jeff Wong over at Courtside for posting a hilarious Mad-Libbed Quote-Off between Sam Mitchell and Charles Oakley.
* Sactown Royalty would like to see the Kings deal Ron Artest, Mikki Moore, Quincy Douby and Atlanta’s 2nd round pick and get Shawn Marion from the HEAT. While I’m a huge fan of Tom’s writing I’m stumped at why he would like this deal. He gives up his most reliable front court player in Moore, a promising young point guard in Douby and I don’t see a big difference between Artest and Marion. What do other hoop fans think about this deal?
* The latest Carnival of the NBA is up at Daily Basketball.
* What would happen if you threw the Sweet 16 mascots into a cage fight to the death? Pro Dunk Hoops found out and the result is a brilliant post that’s worth reading.
* I’m a huge fan of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro so I was stoked to learn the duo will be releasing a new movie called Righteous Kill.
* If your looking for some new tunes to add to your iPod check out “The River” by Noel Gourdin, “Ain’t I Proud” by Jay-Z, “I Know” by Jay-Z and “I Don’t Know” by Danny.
* One of my favourite hip hop groups is The Roots so I was stoked to stumble upon their blog this week.
