Inside Enemy Territory with “Bobcats Bonfire”
With the Raptors about to take on the Bobcats later this afternoon we called on Serena Sanderson-Hays from Bobcats Bonfire to take part in our Inside Enemy Territory.
1. Michael Jordan made a lot of promises last year at the end of the season about the direction of the Bobcats. Has he fulfilled his promises, and is he at least working in the right direction?
I still have mixed emotions on having MJ as the Managing Member of Basketball Operations. He made a lot of promises in Washington too and look what happened there. The Bobcats took a step backwards this year, which is bad for an expansion team. However, I think some good moves were made for the future. The acquisition of J-Rich was huge for us, but I need to see more from him and Rod Higgins this off-season.
2. The loss of Adam Morrison at the beginning of the year was a large blow. Can this year’s lack of success be largely attributed to his missing presence? What will he bring to the team next year?
I don’t think people (meaning Charlotte fans) realized how big of a piece Adam is to this team. He didn’t produce like we thought he would last season, but that is to be expected of some rookies. I think he would have done well this season and his presence was definitely missed. I can’t say that the lack of success is largely attributed to that, because we could have done much better with the guys that are healthy. But we have to take into consideration all of the management changes that happened this year and understand that there is a curve. Next year, I hope that Morrison brings his passion and energy back to the court like we saw him have at Gonzaga. The Bobcats will need it if they want to go anywhere.
3. There’s a lot of talk in Toronto lately about Primoz Brezec. On one local basketball show “Hoops” they interviewed someone from the Charlotte Observer about Brezec, and he stated that he was “a great contributor, as long as you manage your expectations.” Can you expand on what he said, and if you agree with that statement? Do you think he can be an active contributor on a playoff team’s second unit? Keep in mind, the Raptors run a LOT of pick and roll.
See, I’ve never been a big fan of Primoz Brezec. He’s slow, he doesn’t have ups, and he doesn’t post up. He’s got a decent jumper, but when I watch him on the court it never looks like he’s putting forth any effort. That being said, the Raptors play more of a European style basketball, which suits him. Can he be an active contributor? Probably not as much this season as next season. It takes him some time to adjust to a new team and learn their strategies. Come the playoffs, he should be able to give Andrea Bargnani and Rasho Nesterovic some good rest because Brezec hasn’t played much this season so his legs are fresh. What can you expect from him on the court? He’s a big body that gets in the way. On the pick and roll, he’s not very mobile so he may struggle to get back under the basket after setting it.
Again, a big thanks goes out to Serena for helping us out. Please check out Bobcats Bonfire for all your latest Bobcats news.
