The act is old now. The constant falling by Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, James Jones, and Steve Nash is mind-numbing. If Kurt Thomas gets away with one more illegal screen I’m going to scream. It’s the screen where Nash takes a step-back dribble away from the screen and the defender rolls around Thomas and he invariably sticks his behind out to give Nash that split-second extra to beat his defender off the dribble. Thomas must be the butt of Phoenix film session jokes and endless practice court imitations.

Okay people, I know that 99.9% of basketball fans know what happened to Drazen Petrovic, but I’m writing this to shed light onto a fantastic talent that was tragically taken from us almost 14 years ago.
What made me think about Drazen today? Simple. Look at the playoffs today and check out the plethora of foreign talent that’s landed (and done well) on NBA rosters. The Suns have the Brazilian/Canadian connection with Barbosa and Nash, the Cavs’ Sasha Pavlovic is stepping up to annoy “Vin Weasel”, Yao Ming, Dirk …

NBA Draft Day is fast approaching and Draft candidates have finalized the necessary paperwork to be part of a basketball journey culminating with the Association’s Commissioner announcing their name at Madison Square Garden on June 28th.
The upcoming NBA Draft is stockpiled at every position and is one of the deepest drafts since the League instituted a 2 round format. NBA teams Scouting departments have been inundated with heavy hours watching film, travelling abroad, interviewing Draft hopeful coach’s, family, and friends. The likelihood of attaining a serviceable productive …

The NBA playoffs and the Euroleague Final Four are definitely the most important basketball events around the world, watched by millions, played by a few. However, in the southern hemisphere, miles away from San Antonio or Detroit, and Athens, Greece, a small city of about 20,000 inhabitants, that goes by the name of Sunchales has also put its name in 2007 basketball history by hosting, yesterday night, the last game of the Liga Sudamericana finals.
Sunchales, Argentina’s main producer and exporter of dairy products, is also the home of …

What is with our societies insatiable desire to find the next best thing?
Whether it’s a quicker computer, a more fuel efficient car or being the person to uncover the next sports prodigy we are always on the prowl for the next best thing.
What happened to enjoying what we have right now?
I was shocked when I read USA Today’s final player rankings for the 2007 senior class and Rob Harrington wrote that, “anyone who watched O.J. Mayo at last month’s McDonald’s All-American Game might wonder how Mayo could remain …

Looking at the NBA Playoffs this year has reaffirmed my love for good, post-season basketball. Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave, or even worse, watching the NHL, you know that this year has been bonkers. The odds on, super destroyer Dallas Mavericks played Tyson to Golden State’s Buster Douglas, while Miami felt the 2006 edition Larry O’Brien trophy was just fine, thank you. It’s almost an NCAA tournament like atmosphere, where there really aren’t anymore overwhelming favorites left.
So, to honor a team that got salty and left …

I just came home from Athens, Greece where the Euroleague Final Four took place from May 4th-6th. It was quite an experience to see the games in an arena with 20,000 crazy fans - and I mean crazier than Golden State fans these days. I was writing a live blog for FIBA.com so I got the opportunity to meet some very interesting people in European and American basketball.
During this weekend, there was also the Nike Junior Tournament taking place, therefore, I will split this article into two parts.
When …

After reading through Andrew Blauner’s book “Coach: 25 Writers Reflect on People Who Made a Difference” this winter I was surprised to see that Andrew had come across my site and took the time to write up an email last week to thank me for mentioning his book in some posts that I have made recently on Al McGuire. After exchanging some emails I summoned up the courage to ask Andrew for 20 minutes of his time for an interview about his book and he graciously accepted.
Some of …

After a sparkling performance against the Dallas Mavericks this past Sunday the Golden State Warriors have attained a 3-1 lead in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. The best of seven series moves to Texas tonight and if Dallas loses then Mark Cuban’s franchise will be left wondering why they could not defend there Western Conference Championship and make good on being the prohibitive favorite to win this year’s Lawrence O’Brien trophy as NBA Champs. Despite the fact Dallas had the fifth best winning percentage in NBA history at …

Welcome back people! I took a brief hiatus to mourn the passing of the Wizards’ 2006-2007 season, but now that the Cavaliers have finally euthanized my squad, I can focus my attention back to bringing you the best (and worst) of the Ghosts of Basketball Past.
The center position is one of immense scrutiny, as he’s usually the tallest guy on the court, and he never has an on-court, counterpart teammate (there are always 2 guards and 2 forwards). When these guys are good, even marginally, they’re highly …
