WELL KATHLEEN... You obviously didnt see that Nick Anderson your so called "Glue" must have had glue on his shoes before penny & Co got there bc no magic team made the playoffs until Penny was drafted. As for me not seeing every game, yes I live in NY so i dint watch all of the games but this is a forum on PENNY so I am giving him the props he deserves, so relax yourself. PS- Good luck with your next Nick Anderson vs. Penny Hardaway argument, because this one sucked! PENNY!!!!!

Penny was my idol growing up. I had Penny Hardaway everything. I mean even up to the 6'7" lifesize stand up of him. I hate that the David Robinson had to accidently fall on his knee in the playoffs, and then because of all the pressuring Penny had been through saying he wasnt the leader everyone said he would be, he kept playing on it and further damaged it then tried to come back to quick the next year after surgries. It really sucks because now you see players recovering from that type of surgery because the technology and procedures have advanced. Just think if it had happened a decade later he would have had a much better shot at coming back. Can you think of any of era in basketball that had 2 more promising players have their career's taken away like that era did with Hill and Hardaway getting hurt like that back to back. When you think about it that single created the gap between the Jordan and Lebron era and if Bryant hadnt come along so early it would have been even worse.

P.S. One thing about this article is when you did the little talking about his game you forgot to mention what a good defensive player he was before his injury. One of the league leaders in steals....

The last comment was made by someone who never watched every game
of the Orlando Magic, obviously. Penny was sent in time after time to save the game and he just could not pull it off. Brian Hill, the coach
at that time was 100% behind Penny and so were his fans.It was Shaq
with his power and the man that glued that team together, and what a
great team they were, Nick Anderson, who always saved the game.Yes, he
fell apart during the play offs with those missed free throws, but if
you ask anyone on the team or anyone who was a devoted fan it was Nick
who held that team together and the mix of Shaq,Penny,Horace Grant,Brian Shaw, and the rest of the best of those great players who can never be
replaced in my mind. What a wonderful time to love B-Ball.I feel so
grateful to have been there, saw it, felt a little bit a part of it.
MY greatest respect to one of basketball's greatest, without a doubt,
NICK ANDERSON.I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS.THANKS kdjd22@hotmail.com

I have'nt been able to read all of the posts on this page, yet most of the ones that I do are down-right rediculous! Everyone knows that Penny was on his way to becoming one of the greatest players ever to play the game in the early stages of his career. When Shaq left due to his jealousy of being #2(which is later displayed in LA & MIA!), penny had an awful lot of slack to pick up and if I recall before his injury, he did just fine. Somebody please check the stats Vs. the Miami Heat in "97 where PENNY basically tppk on the Heat by himself...I can go on for days, but the only thing that I can say was his downfall was trying to help his team and coming back TOO SOON from multiple injuries, which ultimately cost him in the long run...ALso I do not approve of him playing in the "98 All-Star Game after playing in under 20 games dur to injury, tey I can only think that he did it for the fans, which was more unselfish than his Gazillion assists in his Prime!
Great article. I completely agree with you. If Orlando had won that first game against Houston in the finals, which should have been a blow-out game, history would've been very different; Penny might never have been injured, but , in losing that game, the world was fucked out of what would've been a beautiful basketball dynasty. Thinking about what could've been... actually should have been... makes me so mad... Penny was the future...

If anything, the Magic and Bulls would've been winning back and forth in the finals. Making the Bulls work for their titles.

Such a shame to witness a super-star go down like that...was hoping so much to see Penny shine again in Miami, but that's not going to happen anymore. I don't get Pat's decision to rid Penny for L Jackson. Jackson's not even getting any minitues on the floor and Miami's in the worst slump of team history. I think Penny is the kind of player who if given the trust will rise to it. I hope he will find another chance again somewhere.

The first time I saw Penny Hardaway play was when my uncle showed me the '95 Eastern Conference Finals that he had taped, he's been my favorite player since. But Penny Hardaway, as hard as it is to say it, was getting self-centered and arrogant when the attention started to go to him, and as you've noticed Shaq doesn't like dealing with swollen-headed co-partners (Kobe). Regardless, the magic were stupid for letting him go, all they had to do was get someone to sit down and talk to Penny and the rest would've been history.

Jordan said himself that Penny was the next him and he was....stop hating on him cuz the critics could not play penny one on one 2day.....someone kicked him and caused the intial knee injury....dam the azz that did, just like the azz that kicked Ricky Williams, playing dirty. You can't take away Penny's accomplishments. Enough said...Tyson was the man, and no one can take away his boxing accomplishments.

I've been his fan since I was in HS back in 1995..and I'd have to agree that he will still be one of the best guards in the league if he hadn't been hurt...reading your article, I do miss seeing him play...
